What a Cockroach Taught Me About God
I am delighted to have Kim de Blecourt, a dear friend, award winning author and passionate adoption advocate as a guest blogger today. Kim has one of the biggest hearts I know and believes every child matters, deserves a family and are worth crossing oceans for. Thanks Kim for sharing your heart and changing the world one life at a time!
What a Cockroach Taught Me About God
I pulled my only cooking pot off the counter to start dinner. That’s when I saw him. The huge cockroach fell onto the kitchen floor, and boldly strutted across to the darkness under the cooking area.
I totally lost it.
“Where are you, God? You got me here and you told me to be patient, and now…where are you?” I pounded my fists on the counter and kicked the cupboards before I slowly sank to the floor.
It was March of 2010. I had been living in the Odessa Oblast of Ukraine for over 10 months, after our dream of adoption had become a nightmare. The prosecutor assigned to our adoption was opposed to international adoption, and he did everything in his power to make it known through our adoption.
During my months of moving from hotel rooms to rented flats, I had suspected I wasn’t alone in many of my kitchen areas. Evidence of insects and rodents were left behind just often enough to convince me to keep everything I could inside my refrigerator.
As I watched the cockroach scoot under the cabinet that held the two-burner stovetop, my disappointment continued to pour out. I didn’t edit myself or try to be proper or sweet or soft-spoken. I wanted to know where God had been because I hadn’t felt his presence for quite a while.
That is when God made himself known. A physical calmness spread over me like a blanket.
“It’s okay. I’m here. I have never left you…What are you afraid of?” He whispered to my weary soul.
It was then I realized God had been there all along. He had been beside me throughout the many harrowing parts of our adoption journey. Even during my tantrum, he was beside me, comforting me. Now, he urged me to face my fear with him.
That is when I learned the sovereignty of God.
No matter what I faced, his good and perfect will would be accomplished. Regardless of the intent of others. No matter how many mistakes I made. His will, his sovereignty, would be displayed. From that time on, I walked uprightly in my faith. My spiritual legs had gained the muscle they needed to complete our journey home, together, as a family.
My heavenly Father, also known as El Elyon, the Most High, is the sovereign ruler of the universe. When he opens a door, I walk through it now with a faith that continues to grow. He continues to lead me in caring for the orphaned and abandoned.
That is why I am traveling back to Ukraine, to minister to their bewildered and scared orphans. Many orphans and their caregivers have been moved from war-torn eastern Ukraine to safer areas, such as Kiev and Odessa. They need help.
Will you join me in helping the orphaned of Ukraine?
I have until Sunday, September 14, 2014, to raise as much funding as I can to share with the orphans of Ukraine. My journey will be featured on Facebook through photos, videos and interviews at www.Facebook.com/KimdeBlecourtAuthor. You will be able to meet those who benefit from your donations and sales of our limited edition t-shirt, featuring the colors of the Ukraine flag.
Visit my www.booster.com website, buy a “Keep Calm & Support Ukraine” t-shirt, make a donation, and support us in prayer. Then, share the news of the trip and orphan outreach with your family and friends. Together, we are the hands and feet of Jesus to the fatherless.
