The Weekend Collective – Be Kind
Kindness is defined by Wikipedia as “a behavior marked by ethical characteristics, a pleasant disposition, and concern for others.” I think many would agree this ‘ole world could use a bit more kindness. The election year we experienced was like none other. Common courtesy is in short supply in the public and private arenas, but we can do better.
What can we do?
- We are weary of harsh words, inconsiderate actions and ugly rhetoric. It’s been a tough year for many and some are wary of what is ahead. I get it.
- We need each other. Friends, no one person is an island and two are always better than one. Be aware of the needs around you. You can’t meet them all, but you can make a dent.
- We can change the direction of someones day with a word of kindness. A smile of encouragement and word of sincere praise can brighten even the darkest of days.
- We are a busy lot. It’s easy to neglect kindness without meaning to. Loneliness is rampant but we can make a difference in our corner of the world with a little bit of intention. Take time. Look for the story behind someone else’s eyes.
It may be as simple as opening a door, shoveling a neighbors driveway or bringing a plate of cookies to a new neighbor.
Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34

Each of these cost little more than a few moments of time and takes only the awareness of someone’s need. It may be you only need to listen for a few moments. Many just need to be heard.
Be kind today.
Blessings-
My daughter adopted from China and has experienced unkindness toward her little one. Your message is timely and relevant. We need more kindness and love, for this is how the Light of Christ shines.
There are some pundits and leaders who need to read this! How much more could be accomplished if we remembered to be kind? Thank you for this encouragement my very kind, thoughtful friend!
