Calling
Is it even possible to do it? Of late I have been hearing and reading in a multitude of places the words calling and passion. At times, may I say I have an unsettled, frustrated sense just below the surface. Maybe it is because I am still wrestling with embracing and doing to terms with my own calling and passion.
- One of my passions and the primary reason I became a coach was to equip and encourage others to find their identity, embrace their calling and uncover their own passion and purpose for each step of their life.
My friend Jeff Goins, a writer, blogger and speaker teaches about creativity and purpose from a heart of huge generosity. He is the founder of a powerful writing course (Tribewriters) which has had a huge impact on me as a writer. I
- Jeff has released a new book “The Art of Work”, on the subject of calling. It’s his fourth book, and in my humble opinion, I think it may be his best one yet. I have had the privilege of being on his book launch team and could not put it down. Page after page, the book he speaks to the importance of calling, what it is and how we can discover and explore our own callings in a hands on practical way.
Super simple. I like simple. I like easy. Likely you do too.
“Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” Unknown.
Leaving you with a few tidbits to challenge you today…. would love to hear from you either in the comments or via email !
- What are you up to?
- Where does today find you?
- What does “finding your calling” mean to you?
- Is it possible?
Blessings and cyber hugs to each of you! I am going to go back to my original goal for today… nothing but soaking up a few rays of sunshine.
Nice to see you back, Nancy! Wonderful to be able to get away for a while.
But no matter how much we need to get away and how much we enjoy, Home always looks and feels as the best place on Earth, when we return.
A wonderful post for Jeff’s great book!
Here are a few thoughts I was thinking to post on my blog, but haven’t done it yet, but maybe I will. I share!
“We think we find our calling in this life and give it all we have because we are happy and excited. Little things of our everyday world could seen so insignificant in comparison to our purpose; annoying too, as they take us away from our vision and mission. And we complain and resist even when we know we must and want to shop, and cook, and eat, and clean. That is until Life decides to hit us on the head and makes us realize what is most important at the time. Then, we begin paying attention to, and respect, not only the tribulations but also the little moments we did not want to deal with.
Being open and obedient to those cues from the universe allows us to put aside our own little plans for a while and see where life’s stepping stones take us. When our own plans don’t seem to work because of “interruptions” we have to consider why the universe puts roadblocks on our path.
My book was “ready” to publish three years ago. Or so I thought. But every time I planned to send it off, something major happened to me, my computer, or my family that would not allow it to happen for the longest time. Dealing with life as it comes makes us stronger and wiser. Lessons learned from interruptions and tribulations will take us where we need to be…not where we think we should be. Moreover, they will add patina and depth to our character and reveal what our true calling is. Life’s delays gave me the opportunity to further work on my book, enhancing it with new-found experiences, perspective, and wisdom that could inspire and encourage my future readers.
Meanwhile, I feel that my family needs me more than the world and need to give my attention to my husband, mom, and children until things are good again.
The universe certainly knows what we need and if we let go of our personal agenda it will take us where we need to be.
Though I always knew that, it took me a while to accept it. It’s imperative to understand that our outer purpose of life, our “calling” as Jeff puts it, will only come to be if it coincides with our inner divine purpose. At the end, it is this inner purpose that we need to work on manifesting, and which in the final analysis will guide us to our life’s calling.
Taking the journey that will take us to the right destination, the path that will brings us to our calling, is the theme of my own book, “Sailing to Ithaca” as you will realize while reading.
Blessing, my friend!

Good for you Coach Nancy on getting away for a time of refreshing. I’m taking a little break from studying for Financial Representative state exams this evening. I’ve been in the world of finance for thirty eight years. I stepped away for the past six months and I was blessed with another opportunity in a different area of finances. I love helping people especially our young people get from where they are to where God wants them to be. Wow where would I be now if I knew at 18 what I’m learning now about finances?
Helena-
Helping those younger than you with their finances… a gift and a ministry …from a huge heart of grace and love… speaking into the lives of another …awesome !
