Invest in Yourself ; Secrets of Simplicity
Let’s face it- what is your best asset? You, yes… you. I am often amazed at people who are reluctant to invest in themselves. Women are often the worst at this. They are givers and many nurture others while struggling with guilt if they take time to put themselves ahead of their families and other commitments. You not only deserve it, but it is key if you want to be your best self. Investing in you requires a purposeful choice to grow, develop and birth your greatest strengths.
Be curious about the world around you. Couples who allow one another to grow are more likely to experience a whole and healthy marriage long-term. You may think you are giving your best to your family when you “unselfishly” set aside your wants and desires for them. Not so. If you want to be your best for those you love, it is essential you set aside time and the resources to foster healthy growth.
If you are not learning and growing, you might as well be dead. Today with the internet, there is more knowledge available to mankind than at anytime in history. If you want to learn something, you can. If you wonder about a subject, the knowledge is at your fingertips. Excuses are without merit. There is a wealth of information if only you choose to pursue it.
Are you stuck? Have you given so much to your home, spouse, ministry or career you have forgotten what it feels like to wonder about the world through your own eyes?
How do you become curious? The place to start is to realize you don’t know everything. In fact, if you did you would be pretty dull. Wonder is the magic of children and adults alike. Engaging in curiosity is the daily practice of some of the wisest and most intelligent people who have lived. It comes from an internal desire to know more. Your relationship with your spouse and your children will not suffer because of your desire to grow- but instead it will strengthen as you do.
Today’s Challenge- Explore curiosity. What have you wanted to know more about, but have not taken the time to uncover?
- Study something you know nothing about
- Take a poetry or cooking class
- Pick up an instrument you have wanted to learn to play
- Sign up for a writing class
- Explore classes offered at your local library or YMCA
- Ask your boss for opportunities to grow in your present position. Let him/her know you want more.
- Schedule time each week for personal growth
- Begin to set aside finances to attend a conference or class you have been secretly longing to go to.
