Revolution
The best of times and the worst of times.
We gather with people we love and some we don’t to consume massive quantities of food, spend crazy amounts of money we have not earned yet and drive great distances” over the river and through the woods” filling up our gas tanks at prices we would rather not pay.
Music is heard at every turn in the name of Christmas, under the facade of a carol but with words that have nothing to do with the real meaning of the season. My personal favorite (not) is “Grandma got run over by a Reindeer”. Ugh.
I don’t think I am alone in needing to pull the Christ of Christmas closer, perhaps there are others.
Maybe you are too. If you are hoping for more this season, I invite you to join my little revolution.
1) I will pause and smile at weary sales staff in every store.
2) I will walk slowly while shopping – rushing is not always important.
3) I will embrace Advent and prepare my heart for the celebration of the Christ child
4) I will find a way to bring joy to a family who is struggling- giving is better than receiving- hands down.
5) I will savor the moments I have with family and friends, embracing the knowledge I will not always have the privilege of them in my life
6) I will light candles at every opportunity. Winter is long and dark, candles make it better.
7) I will appreciate the beauty of winter, no matter how cold and frigid it feels.
8) I will play beautiful music every day.
9) I will sit in silence whenever I can.
10) I will knit slippers -because sometimes handmade gifts spell love the best.
None of these will change the world or stop world hunger, but maybe one will make a dent somewhere.
What would you add to my little revolution?
Blessings
Great ideas, Nancy.
I have been taking steps for three months to slow down and simplify my calendar. It’s tough to decide but worth the effort.
I do need to slow down this Christmas.
To smell the cinnamon, ginger, and pine.
To spend time with family and friends.
To worship.
and eat Whitman Sampler chocolate!
Blessings- friend- Breathe deep, breathe it all in…. slowly, savoring the season before it rushes by!
Nancy
I have been thinking about the difficulties of Christmas too. Let’s add HUGGING to the list!
Peggy !
I love it… I completely endorse hugging 🙂
Thank you for this revolution challenge, Nanc. I’ve been feeling very bah-humbugish about Christmas, but I accept your challenge to slow down, be nice and enjoy the beauty. But I still don’t like the cold! 🙂
Love you, friend!
Little steps, small breaths… big joy.
Love you my friend. thanks for joining my little revolution !
hugss
I was on board until #7 🙂 I actually prefer bundling than being hot. Today, at 18 degrees though, even in the house with the blessing of central heat my hands are frigid. As I travel to see family this year I will treasure #5
Christa- Yes.. I agree with your struggle with #7. I grumbled walking into church today whining about the cold and the wind… I am good with cold, it is wind which makes me a little crabby. So- yes, I am working on a full on embrace of #7 right along with you my friend! brr..
Blessings- thanks for stopping by- enjoy your family in a mega wonderful way whenever and wherever you can this year.
Nancy 🙂
