Come to the Table: Embracing Radical Hospitality with Open Hearts
Growing up my family didn’t host gatherings, parties or even many sleep overs for my friends.
While my mom was kind, helpful and would give you the shirt of her back if you needed it, she struggled greatly with opening up her home to others. the thought of it caused her incredible stress because she felt inadequate.
Through the years, I have heard from many of my friends and clients who feel the same way.
True hospitality goes beyond just setting a beautiful table or serving a delicious meal. It’s about opening our hearts wide, welcoming others with love and grace, and creating a safe space where all are seen and valued.
For us, as Christian women in the midlife season, practicing radical hospitality is not just a nice gesture—it can be a heart calling. It’s rooted in the idea that every person we encounter is a beloved child of God, deserving of love, acceptance, compassion and holding incredible, priceless value.
It’s about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in our homes, our relationships, and our communities, where everyone has a place.
As we navigate the workings of daily life, from juggling responsibilities to nurturing relationships and pursuing our passions, radical hospitality reminds us to slow down, be present, and extend grace to ourselves and others. It’s about showing up with open hearts and open hands, ready to listen, support, and uplift those around us.
One of the beautiful things about radical hospitality is the simple strength it births as relationships grow and the ability to connect and be a part of someone else’s life.
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:13 NIV
When we embrace the spirit of generosity and kindness, we not only impact the lives of those around us but we often find we receive much more than we give!
In the sacred space of radical hospitality, we find opportunities to connect with others on a deeper level, to share our stories, our struggles, and our triumphs. It’s in these moments of vulnerability and authenticity that true relationships are formed, and lasting bonds are created.
When we connect in community, we draw strength from one another, and find grace in a shared journey of faith and life.
My friends, I encourage you to consider how God may be inviting you to begin a practice of radical hospitality within your circle of influence.
I believe it is possible to create small pockets of love and connection where everyone is welcome and everyone is cherished.
Together, let’s begin to spread God’s love through small acts of kindness, generosity, and grace, making our corner of the world a little brighter and more beautiful wherever and whenever we can.
