Stillness
Chaos was everywhere. Phones rang constantly, activity hummed from every corner and customers came and went. Each person in the office had more work to do than they could hope to accomplish in a day. Plates were beyond full. Frustration was causing nerves to fray.
My team was doing their best but I could see files and folders strewn about. Phone messages were begging to be returned, meetings were on the schedule and the crazy chaos felt overwhelming.
I get those fleeting, beautiful moments of inner peace and stillness – and then the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day, I’m a human trying to make it through in this world. – Ellen DeGeneres
I wanted to help with the backlog. I could see the work we needed to complete, but, as stepped back, it was clear working harder, smarter and longer was not going to be the answer today.
We were on the brink of total frustration.
But, as I stepped back, the voice of the Lord began to whisper oh so softly within. “My burden is easy, and my yoke is light… Let me take it all. I am crazy about you and love you huge!”
Taking a few extra moments to gather my thoughts, I tucked that precious reminder from the Heavenly Father into my heart and stepped in to shoulder some of the work we had before us. Our circumstances had not changed but my perspective and outlook did.
For My yoke is easy, and My load is light. Matthew 11:30 NAS
Three Ways to Find Stillness in Chaos
- Accept chaos will come but you have a choice in how you deal with it. Breathe deeply as you do. Your physical stance greatly impacts how you handle challenges before you.
- Take a stand against the chaos by stepping back. Choosing to respond instead of reacting to your circumstances.
- Pray daily to be fruitful and useful wherever you are. Being a yielded vessel gives God an opportunity to move through you.
Question-
- How is God challenging YOU today?
- What is one of the most difficult mountains you climb as you seek to live a yielded life?
- How do you keep focused when the daily “stuff” threatens to overwhelm?
Share your thoughts in the comments – I would love to hear how you deal with the chaos in your life.
